Gen.8 welcomes the second half of the program! Don’t miss what else is new

The second half of our eighth generation is upon us! That can only mean one thing: Gen.8 got through midpoint evaluations. As we went over the growth of the 13 startups that set off on the acceleration journey last May, it thrilled us to witness local companies — like TastySmart and Strain — shaping their expansion strategies.

With that said, we’re delighted with the results from this first phase of the program. Now it’s time to kick off the remaining (and exciting) next three months with all efforts concentrated on getting ready for Demo Day, coming up between September 28th and October 3rd. If you’re wondering if you’ll be able to attend, you’ll definitely will since the event will be entirely virtual once again. Stay tuned for the details in the upcoming weeks!

In the meantime, we’re in the final stages of selecting our next batch of pre18ners. The team and the judges are so far impressed with the quality of the companies, and we can’t wait for our Selection Committee to take place in a few days. Stay tuned next month for the results!

Last but not least, after a jam-packed Summer, things have slowed down in terms of schedule, and that has given our team time to focus on upcoming initiatives. Every day we look for new ways to strengthen our internal operations and keep doing what we do best: helping entrepreneurs from all over the world move forward.

• Puerto Rican #P18Alumnus Abartys Health is featured on CBInsight — a tech insight platform — list of most well-funded startups in LATAM and the Caribbean, after mapping out the top tech companies in the region by country.
• #P18Alumnus Kiwibot keeps making waves with their delivery robots, which just arrived in San Jose, California. With this, they’ve announced that Shopify and Ordermark are the first partners for Kiwibot under their new B2B approach. Read more here.
• Brazilian #P18Alumnus Tem Açúcar was included in a report that mapped more than 60 startups solving problems related to the crisis caused by COVID-19. The company has been focusing on adapting to the newfound needs the pandemic has brought to its usual client base. Go here to download the full report!
• Gen.7’s Nilus won the Virtual South Summit: LATAM Edition, the latest digital event organized by South Summit and IE University! The Argentinian #P18Alumnus — whose mission is to create affordable and nutritious food markets for low-income people using tech — pitched their project as part of the event’s LATAM startup competition, which they ultimately won. • Puerto Rican #P18Alumni PRoduce!, Pinta Gelato, and Molcajete Foods have respectively announced initiatives to help local producers whose harvest was affected by tropical storm Isaías. In support of these farmers, Pinta Gelato has come up with two new flavors of creamy native gelato made with plantain produced in affected farms. Likewise, Molcajete Foods’ has transformed their corn tortilla cutting machine into a “tostones” crusher to use the plantains to create the beloved traditional Puerto Rican dish. You can find both the gelato and the “tostones” on PRoduce’s digital marketplace made up of 100% local products.
• British Gen.7 alumnus Syrona Women’s co-founder, Chantelle Belle, is one of the top tech leaders in Europe to follow in 2020, according to 150Sec. Learn more about her and others on the list here!
• Gen.7’s Abaxto has partnered with Peruvian restaurant chain Segundo Muelle, which has a presence in Europe and LATAM. After closing a white-label deal, the franchise has launched an app using the startup’s technology.
• El Pais, one of the most significant publications in Spain, has featured #P18Alumnus SamyRoad’s cofounders in its list of female entrepreneurs leading the COVID-19 economic recovery. Read the entire list here.
